The Kiwanis Club of Pike Road pursued its goal of helping the community by awarding $8,000 in college scholarships to four graduating seniors from local high schools.

Club President Steve Straughn announced the recipients at the Pike Road Town Council meeting on May 12. Each student received $2,000. The recipients were:

--Addison Little, Macon East Academy, headed to Chattahoochee Valley Community College.

--Abigail Lugo Wenceslao, Pike Road High School, going to the University of South Alabama.

--Regan Frazer, Macon East Academy, attending LaGrange College.

--Sophia Bishop, Pike Road High School, headed to the University of North Alabama.

“The Kiwanis Club of Pike Road is a group of like-minded volunteers who are involved in projects that do make a difference. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life in our community. We serve together primarily to make an impact on our town by offering scholarships to worthy graduating seniors in the town of Pike Road as well as participating in other community events when help is needed,” Straughn said.

The $8,000 in scholarship for 2025 graduating seniors brought the total scholarships given by the club to $27,000 in four years.

The club raises scholarship money by holding its 5K Family Fun Run in the spring and selling Christmas ornaments in the fall. The ornaments feature historic sites in Pike Road, Straughn said.

The Kiwanis Club welcomes new members. It meets at noon on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at Cuco’s Restaurant, Straughn said.
